Cupcakes with a cause? We’re in.
Thursday 17 September is RSPCA Cupcake Day, a day that brings people together to raise funds for animals in need. Funds raised help support mistreated, abandoned and abused animals through rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming.
And because our dogs shouldn’t have to sit there watching us eat all the cupcakes, we found a dog-friendly pupcake recipe to share with the pack.
We’ll be putting this one to the test ourselves this weekend, so stay tuned for Coco’s official taste-test verdict.
Dog-Friendly Pupcakes
What you’ll need
For the pupcakes:
- ½ cup water
- ½ ripe banana
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup natural peanut butter (make sure it is xylitol-free)
- 1 cup finely shredded carrot
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the frosting:
- ¼ cup cream cheese
- ¼ cup peanut butter
How to make them
Preheat your oven to 180°C.
Blend the water, banana, egg and peanut butter until smooth.
Add the shredded carrot, honey, baking powder, cinnamon and olive oil, then mix until combined.
Divide the mixture into your cupcake tray and bake for approximately 20 minutes, or until golden.
While they cool, mix the cream cheese and peanut butter together to make the frosting.
Once the pupcakes are completely cool, add the frosting and let the taste testing begin.
A little reminder before serving
These are intended as an occasional treat, not part of your dog’s everyday diet. Always check the ingredients you use are suitable for your dog, particularly peanut butter, which must be xylitol-free.
If your dog has allergies, sensitivities or specific dietary requirements, check with your vet before trying a new treat.
